PHILOLOGICAL COMMENTARY

Our reconstruction and translation of this omen differ from that proposed in If a City 2, 274-275. This is due to our different placement of K 03726+ ii 38: see the comment to 38.3.

In our interpretation, kùr-ru represents the beginning of the apodosis. An alternative reading of the two signs following ur-ra-du-ni is GUR-ru, iturrū, belonging to the protasis and referring to the blister beetles: 'if blister beetles … climb down from the walls ... (and then) turn back.' See also 38.4.
