PHILOLOGICAL COMMENTARY

Unlike If a City 2, 275, 38.8, which translates 'moths', we translate UR.ME 'blister beetle' in the singular here, because there is no indication that the verb should be taken as a plural.

In If a City 2, 282, 38.8, a8 the transliteration of MLC 01867 follows the handcopy of the tablet which does not have LÚ after ina É in the protasis.

In If a City 2, 274-75, 38.8 the verb of the apodosis is mistakenly read as a form of kašāpu 'to cast a spell'. Collation of K 03726+ and MLC 01867 has shown that it is a form of nazāqu instead.

The mention of the 'lady of the house' in the apodosis seems to have been prompted by the association with the bedroom in the protasis. As in 38.7, the blister beetle is associated with a woman who takes illegitimate agency and nags her husband.
