PHILOLOGICAL COMMENTARY

The broken sign in Sm 0472+ 4', read as ˹x˺, is the head of a horizontal wedge. As in the previous omen, and as already suggested by If a City 2, 276, n. 32-33' (typo: the note refers to her omens *33'-*34'), an adverb or an adverbial phrase may have occurred in the break, perhaps 'all day/all night', beginning with ina, as in omens 38.40'-38.41'. Whether this is correct or not, the ˹x˺ cannot represent the beginning of GÙ.GÙ-si because, otherwise, 38.32' and 38.33' would have the same protasis.

In K 03726+ iii 22, the apodosis of the omen is partially written over the ruling, suggesting that the ruling might have been drawn before the line was written.
