PHILOLOGICAL COMMENTARY

Omens 38.29' and 38.30' are different from the rest of the omens from chapter 38 in that the subject of the protasis is not the animal, but rather the man. See the comment to 38.29'. Parallel protases which describe the encounters between a man and an animal in various contexts appear at several places in the series Šumma ālu. For protases similar to this one, see De Zorzi (2009, 108-112). Note that 38.29'-30' are enclosed between two horizontal rulings on K 06315+.

It seems that K 03726+ preserves a different version of the apodosis, but the text is too fragmentary to be certain.
