PHILOLOGICAL COMMENTARY

Omens 38.22'-38.25' are attested only in the excerpt text K 03726+. It is possible that the standard sequence included some more omens here, but the dimensions of the extant tablets, in particular the standard text Sm 0472, make it unlikely that more than one or two omens, if any, are missing.

K 08048+ 4 (omen 38.8a) might belong here on grounds of context: the protasis refers to a blister beetle being seen into a cup, which could prompt the association with food.

The reconstruction of the apodosis of this omen is based on several parallels in omen literature. For a similar apodosis within this Chapter, see 38.3.
