PHILOLOGICAL COMMENTARY

• As Sm 0710+ 2’ and the subsequent line Sm 0710+ 3' both have the word GIZKIM (sign) followed by the signs ši­-i and ši­-i ḫa, respectively, If a City 2 (188, n. 65, lines 2’ and 3’) associates them with 32.S.65, which is an omen with multiple protases and apodoses. While the reconstruction of dam‑qat ‘goodness’ in the apodosis seems appropriate—because the next omen (Sm 0710+ 3')  is likely to be ḫa-ṭa-at ‘evil’—the two lines are unlikely to be related to 32.S.65. Firstly the order of favorable and unfavorable apodoses are reversed (as noted as well by If a City 2). Further the signs before GIZKIM in 32.S.65 are read first as -ir and then -ram. The traces of the signs preceding GIZKIM on both Sm 0710+ 2’ and Sm 0710+ 3'  do not fit with either reading. After collation, we tentatively read ­š]u^? for the sign before GIZKIM.
