PHILOLOGICAL COMMENTARY

In If a City 2, 284, K 06315+ 13' is placed as omen *38.38' at the beginning of the nappillu sequence. Our placement here, though speculative to a certain degree due to the broken state of preservation of the relevant manuscripts, is based on our interpretation of Sm 0472+ as a standard text containing the whole omen sequence, rather than as an excerpt text. In If a City 2, 284, K 06315+ 13'-15' are placed between Sm 0472+ 8' and 9', thereby breaking up the omen sequence on that manuscript. In addition, it is highly probable that K 06315+ 14'-15' duplicate Sm 0472+ 21'-22': see the comment to the next omen.

On Sm 0472+, traces of one of the horizontal wedges of LU are visible; these traces were not included in the handcopy.

As elsewhere in the animal omens (e.g., ants), the presence of imīdū in the protasis conditions the appearance of nadê in the apodosis.
