PHILOLOGICAL COMMENTARY
  • GÁL-ši ‘there will be’ has been reconstructed from 32.A.46. The sign GÁL is not present on the Sultantepe manuscript’s hand copy. Until the original manuscript is examined, it is unclear whether the exclusion is one made by the ancient scribe or by the modern copyist. Another difference between the two omens is the lack of the pronoun BI after NA ‘man’ in the Assur omen.
  • For a discussion on reading the sign KA as GÙ ‘cry (of distress)’, see the commentary at 32.A.46.
