PHILOLOGICAL COMMENTARY
  • While this is the last of a triad of omens about a lizard interacting with a snake, it is also the second of a pair of omens in which a lizard carries a snake. The two omens (32.N.51’ and 32.N.52’) are not only thematically linked but also form a ‘narrative’ pair. The second omen seems to be written from the perspective of the woman in the first omen. Interestingly the order of the two omens is swapped on manuscript K 03730+. See also the commentary at 32.N.51’.
